What is homework? Should it always be done in writing, or can it be oral? Is it necessary connected with the information and tasks from the textbooks? Homework refers to any work or activity that students are asked to do outside the classroom, either on their own or with other students or parents. Sometimes it is based on comparatively simple drill exercises, sometimes it involves highly challenging tasks, project or research work aimed at integrating skills and knowledge from different subject areas. Research indicates that schools in which homework is routinely assigned and systemically assessed tend to have higher achieving students, as learning is not confined to the schoolroom environment. Homework appropriately designed and well balanced is able to enhance self-discipline and good study habits; to develop students' independence and initiative. It can also provide an opportunity to revise or complete classroom work, thus reinforcing what has been taught, to provide regular feedback on the students' progress in learning and raise academic skills and standards. Parents who are concerned with their kids' homework get an opportunity to become engaged in the education of their children.

Homework is any assignment or activity that students are expected to complete outside of regular classroom hours. This work can be done individually or with the help of other students or family members. The nature of homework varies: it can range from simple exercises meant to reinforce basic skills to more complex tasks, such as projects or research, which encourage the application of knowledge across various subjects.

While homework is traditionally written, it doesn't have to be strictly so. Some assignments can be oral, depending on the nature of the task or the objectives set by the teacher. For example, students might be asked to present information verbally, engage in discussions, or record their thoughts in an oral format, which helps develop speaking and critical thinking skills.

Homework is often linked to the content taught in textbooks, but it can also extend beyond the textbook material. It might include tasks designed to encourage independent research, creativity, and critical thinking, which are not directly covered in textbooks but still align with the subject’s overall learning goals.

When homework is appropriately designed, it has several benefits. It reinforces classroom learning, offers opportunities for practice, and allows students to review or complete lessons. It also provides teachers with valuable feedback on student progress and can contribute to developing skills such as self-discipline and time management. Moreover, homework fosters independent work habits and gives students the opportunity to take initiative in their learning. Additionally, it allows parents to be more involved in their children's education, helping them monitor and support their academic development.
