Prepositions of place

Prepositions of place tell us where something or someone is. They are usually placed before a noun or pronoun.

Common prepositions of place:

• in — inside something (in the box, in the room)
• on — on a surface (on the table, on the wall)
• at — at a specific point or place (at the door, at school)
• under — below something (under the bed)
• behind — at the back of something (behind the house)
• next to / beside — at the side of something (next to the bank)
• between — in the middle of two things (between the chairs)
• in front of — opposite, before something (in front of the cinema)

Examples: The cat is on the sofa. She is waiting at the bus stop. The keys are in my bag.
