I didn't create a ranking, so I can't say what basis I used. If I were to rank animals, I might consider their ecological importance, not just beauty or size.

Many people are more interested in saving larger and more beautiful animals because they are more visible and charismatic. This is called the "charismatic megafauna" effect. These animals often appear in media and campaigns, making people care more about them. Smaller, less noticeable species are just as important but get less attention.
