People living in the 20th century did not see a living dodo. The dodo was a flightless bird that lived on the island of Mauritius. It became extinct in the late 17th century, long before the 20th century. Yes, the dodo is an extinct species.

Some endangered species I remember: Amur leopard, giant panda, black rhinoceros, orangutan (animals); Venus flytrap, rafflesia, some orchid species (plants).

Forests are disappearing fast mainly due to logging, agriculture (clearing land for crops and cattle), mining, and urban expansion. This leads to loss of habitat for animals and plants, climate change (less CO₂ absorption), soil erosion, and disruption of water cycles. People may face more natural disasters, loss of resources, and health problems.

Rainforests are vital because they produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, regulate climate, and are home to over half of the world's species. They also provide medicines, food, and fresh water.

7. How wild plants help cure people: Many medicines come from wild plants. For example, in savannas, the bark of the cinchona tree (originally from South America but similar principle) yields quinine for malaria. In deserts, plants like aloe vera are used for burns and skin healing. In rainforests, the rosy periwinkle from Madagascar provides drugs for childhood leukemia. Scientists study these plants to discover new treatments.

8. What to remember for a healthy future: We must protect nature because our health depends on clean air, water, and biodiversity. Sustainable use of resources, reducing pollution, and preserving ecosystems are essential. A healthy lifestyle includes a balanced diet, exercise, and avoiding harmful habits, but also caring for the environment that supports all life.
