In Russia we have both official and traditional holidays. People especially like New Year because it is the biggest family holiday.

People celebrate holidays in different ways. They meet relatives and friends, cook special food, give presents, decorate their homes, watch concerts and fireworks, and have a rest.

People celebrate New Year on the night of December 31 and on January 1. Families usually decorate a New Year tree, eat a festive dinner, watch TV, and give presents.

My favorite holiday is New Year because it is cheerful, beautiful, and magical.

On this day I decorate the house, help my family cook dinner, give and receive presents, watch fireworks, and spend time with my relatives.
