   → Mary said that she had caught a cold.
   (Настоящее совершённое время Present Perfect → Past Perfect.)

2. He said, «I will have returned by ten o’clock tomorrow».
   → He said that he would have returned by ten o’clock the next day.
   (will → would, tomorrow → the next day.)

3. I said, «I lived in Kiev last year».
   → I said that I had lived in Kiev the year before.
   (Past Simple → Past Perfect, last year → the year before.)

4. He said, «I am listening to a very interesting lecture here».
   → He said that he was listening to a very interesting lecture there.
   (Present Continuous → Past Continuous, here → there.)

5. My sister said, «I will come to see you the day after tomorrow».
   → My sister said that she would come to see me two days later.
   (will → would, you → me, the day after tomorrow → two days later.)

6. I said, «This story happened long ago».
   → I said that that story had happened long before.
   (this → that, Past Simple → Past Perfect, long ago → long before.)

7. Peter said, «I saw this film yesterday».
   → Peter said that he had seen that film the day before.
   (Past Simple → Past Perfect, this → that, yesterday → the day before.)

8. She said, «I am going on holiday next week».
   → She said that she was going on holiday the following week.
   (Present Continuous → Past Continuous, next week → the following week.)
