Отвечает Губанова Алина.

A hundred years ago, in 1926, Saint Petersburg was called Leningrad. The city had been renamed in 1924 after Vladimir Lenin.

Leningrad was an important industrial, cultural and scientific centre of the Soviet Union. People worked in factories, at the port, in schools and theatres. Trams were a common form of transport, while cars were still rare.

The city was famous for its beautiful buildings, wide streets, bridges and the River Neva. Many famous museums and theatres, including the Hermitage and the Mariinsky Theatre, were already part of its cultural life.
