Here are the words and how to use them:

  • yet — in negative sentences and questions: I haven’t finished my homework yet.
  • already — something happened earlier than expected: She has already cleaned her room.
  • just — something happened a very short time ago: He has just arrived.
  • ago — used with Past Simple: I saw him two days ago.
  • yesterday — used with Past Simple: We went to the park yesterday.
  • since — from a starting point in time: I have lived here since 2020.
  • for — for a period of time: She has studied English for five years.
  • always — all the time: I have always liked music.
  • ever — in questions about life experience: Have you ever been to London?
  • how long — asks about duration: How long have you known him?
  • so far — up to now: I have read three chapters so far.

For Present Perfect, common words are yet, already, just, since, for, always, ever, how long, so far. For Past Simple, common words are ago and yesterday.
