Write a story about trying a new sport or
activity for the first time and:
• use the first sentence and title to catch the
reader's attention.
• set the scene and mention the characters
involved in the story.
• use a range of narrative tenses to tell the story.
• finish the story with something exciting, funny
or unexpected.

The Day I Flew Over the Water

I had never felt so scared and excited at the same time. Last summer, my cousin Max invited me to try wakeboarding with him at the lake. The sun was shining, the water was calm, and I was pretending to be much braver than I really was.

While Max was explaining what to do, I was thinking about all the ways I could fall. I had watched other people wakeboarding before, but I had never tried it myself. When the boat started moving, I held the rope tightly and tried to stand up.

At first, I fell immediately. Then I fell again. Everyone was laughing, but not in a mean way, so I started laughing too. After several tries, I finally managed to stand. I was moving across the water, and for a few seconds I felt like a champion.

Suddenly, a small wave hit the board, and I flew into the air. I landed with a huge splash, and when I came up, there was a tiny fish in my life jacket. Max said it was my first wakeboarding trophy.
