Различие между Past Simple и Past Continuous

Past Simple (простое прошедшее время) используется, когда мы говорим о действиях, которые произошли в определённый момент в прошлом и уже завершены. Эти действия обычно имеют чёткий временной маркер, например, "вчера", "на прошлой неделе", "в 1995 году" и т.д.

Past Continuous (продолженное прошедшее время) описывает действия, которые происходили в определённый момент в прошлом, но были незавершёнными, длительными или происходили одновременно с другим действием. Обычно это время используется, когда мы хотим подчеркнуть процесс действия в прошлом.

Правила выбора времени в каждом предложении:

   • The strong wind was blowing when we were in the open space.
   • Здесь используется Past Continuous (was blowing), чтобы описать длительное действие (дующий ветер) в определённый момент, когда мы находились на открытом пространстве.

   • Past Continuous используется, так как действие "наблюдал" происходило в процессе.

   • They were leaving when she came in.
