Как носитель на сайтах с вопросами-ответами обычно объясняю так: Present Simple используем для привычек, фактов и частотных действий (слова-маркеры: often, always, never, how often). Present Continuous — для действий, происходящих прямо сейчас (now, at the moment) или когда внимание направляют фразами вроде Look!, Be quiet!
