My city is Rostov-on-Don, a lively place on the wide Don River in southern Russia. People here often call it the “Gateway to the Caucasus,” and you feel that energy in the mix of cultures, voices, and smells along the embankment. In the evenings I like to walk by the river, where street musicians play, children chase pigeons, and cafés serve fresh fish and hot pastries.

The heart of Rostov for me is Pushkinskaya Street, a long, green boulevard with old trees, statues, and quiet courtyards. On weekends my friends and I meet there, grab coffee, and wander past bookshops and small galleries. Theater Square is another favorite—spacious, bright, and always busy with festivals, open-air concerts, and the sound of the big fountain.

Rostov is proud of its history and character. You can see it in the red-brick Paramonov Warehouses by the river and in the cozy neighborhoods of old Nakhichevan-on-Don. At the same time, the city feels modern. The Rostov Arena, built for the 2018 World Cup, stands like a silver wave on the left bank, and on match days the whole area comes alive.

Life here is practical and warm. Summers are hot and sunny, winters are mild, and markets overflow with vegetables, fruits, and river fish. People are direct, humorous, and hospitable—Cossack traditions of generosity are still strong. Rostov isn’t just a dot on the map for me; it’s the rhythm of the Don, a place where history, sport, and everyday joy meet, and the city I’m proud to call home.
