Письмо другу на тему любимый национальный праздник в россии на английском языке

Dear Alex,
I hope you’re doing well! You asked about my favorite national holiday in Russia, and for me it’s Victory Day on May 9. It’s the day we commemorate the end of World War II in Europe and honor the people who fought and those who never came home. The whole country feels different on that day—solemn but proud.
In the morning there are military parades in many cities, with the biggest one on Red Square in Moscow. You’ll see veterans wearing their medals, and people bring flowers—usually red carnations—to war memorials and the Eternal Flame. A lot of families take part in the “Immortal Regiment” march, carrying portraits of relatives who served. It’s very moving; you feel connected to history, not just reading about it.
At home we watch the parade on TV, cook simple, traditional food—salads like “Olivier,” herring under a fur coat, and hot tea with pastries—and then go out for a walk. Streets are decorated with flags and ribbons, and there are concerts in parks with wartime songs everyone seems to know by heart. In the evening there are fireworks over the river; the reflections look beautiful and it’s a perfect, bittersweet ending to the day.
I think Victory Day is my favorite because it combines gratitude, memory, and unity. It reminds us how much peace costs and why it’s worth protecting.
Take care,
Nikita
