Ниже — готовые образцы и краткие правила, как задавать вопросительные предложения в прошедшем времени с вопросительными словами How long? / Where? / What? Я привожу варианты в трёх прошедших временах: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect (и для How long? ещё уместен Past Perfect Continuous).

1) How long? — «Как долго?»

A. Past Simple (действие завершено в прошлом, известен законченный период)

Схема: How long + did + подлежащее + V₁?

• How long did you stay in London?

• How long did the meeting last?

• How long did it take you to finish the report?

• How long did they live in that house?

Удобно с маркерами: yesterday, last year, in 2010, for two weeks (если период полностью в прошлом).

B. Past Continuous (интересует длительность процесса в конкретный момент прошлого)

Схема: How long + was/were + подлежащее + V-ing?

• How long were you waiting at the station?

• How long was she studying when you called?

C. Past Perfect (действие завершилось до другого момента/события в прошлом)

Схема: How long + had + подлежащее + V₃?

• How long had you known him before you started working together?

• How long had the museum been closed before it reopened?

D. Past Perfect Continuous (подчёркнутая длительность до точки в прошлом)

Схема: How long + had + подлежащее + been + V-ing?

• How long had they been dating before they got married?

• How long had it been raining before the sun came out?

2) Where? — «Где? / Куда? / Откуда?»

A. Past Simple

Схема: Where + did + подлежащее + V₁?

• Where did you go last night?

• Where did they find this photo?

• Where did she buy that jacket?

• Where did the accident happen? (глагол «happen» — без вспомогательного, но в вопросе всё равно нужен did: happen → base form)

B. Past Continuous (где находился/что делал в процессе)

Схема: Where + was/were + подлежащее + V-ing?

• Where were you working in 2018?

• Where was he driving when the tire blew out?

C. Past Perfect (локация/перемещение до другого прошлого момента)

Схема: Where + had + подлежащее + V₃?

• Where had you left the keys before you moved?

• Where had they gone by the time you arrived?

Если вопрос о месте пребывания без действия, можно: Where were you? (Past Simple глагола be).
Для «откуда» и «куда»: Where did you come from? / Where did you go to? (обычно без «to»: Where did you go?).

3) What? — «Что?»

A. Past Simple

Схема (обычная): What + did + подлежащее + V₁?

• What did you eat for dinner?

• What did he say at the meeting?

• What did they decide in the end?

Схема (если «what» — подлежащее): What + V₂ (+ …)? (без did)

• What happened yesterday?

• What caused the delay?

B. Past Continuous

Схема: What + was/were + подлежащее + V-ing?

• What were you doing at 9 p.m.?

• What was she talking about when you entered?

C. Past Perfect

Схема: What + had + подлежащее + V₃?

• What had you planned before the trip was canceled?

• What had they prepared by noon?

Короткие пары «утверждение → вопрос»

• You stayed in Rome for two weeks. → How long did you stay in Rome?

• She was waiting outside. → How long was she waiting outside?

• They had been working together for a year before the merger. → How long had they been working together before the merger?

• You met him at the library. → Where did you meet him?

• He was driving home. → Where was he driving?

• They had gone by 6 p.m. → Where had they gone by 6 p.m.?

• You watched a documentary. → What did you watch?

• She was reading something interesting. → What was she reading?

• They had prepared everything. → What had they prepared?

Полезные замечания

• В Past Simple с лексическими глаголами всегда используем did + базовую форму (did go, did say).

• Вопросы с be в прошедшем: was/were идут перед подлежащим (Where were you? What was the problem?).

• При How long выбирайте время по смыслу: законченная длительность в прошлом → Past Simple; длительность до точки в прошлом → Past Perfect / Past Perfect Continuous; длительный процесс в момент прошлого → Past Continuous.
