Last summer, I decided to take a shortcut through the woods at dusk. The trees blocked the fading light, and the path was barely visible. I heard a twig snap behind me. I froze, listening. Silence. Then, a low whisper seemed to come from everywhere at once. I couldn't make out the words. I ran, branches scratching my arms. I burst out of the woods near my house, gasping. When I looked back, I saw two faint lights, like eyes, watching me from the tree line. I never took that path again.
