A dramatic rescue after a storm

This was the dramatic scene in a small town on Monday evening when strong winds damaged several houses near the river. The incident happened after heavy rain caused the river to rise very quickly.

The incident began at about six o’clock. People were walking home from work, and some children were playing near the street when the water suddenly came over the road. A tree fell onto a car, but luckily nobody was inside.

At first, the conditions were very dangerous. It was raining heavily, the wind was blowing, and people were trying to move to higher ground. Firefighters were helping families leave their homes, while neighbours were carrying blankets and food.

After three hours, the rain stopped and the water started to go down. No one was seriously hurt. One local resident said, “It was frightening, but everyone helped each other.” The mayor thanked the rescue workers and said that the town would repair the damage as soon as possible.
