Speaking Task 1. Discuss statements with your partner saying whether you agree or disagree with him/her. Provide explanation to your answer. Answer the questions while speaking. You should speak at least 2 minutes. Learners talk in pairs on such topics as: family, relations with other people, hobbies and interests, house and homes. Firstly, one learner provides explanation then they swap.

Student A: I think family is the most important thing in a person’s life. Family members support us when we have problems and share happy moments with us. Do you agree?

Student B: Yes, I do. My family helps me feel safe and confident. However, I think friends are important too, because we can discuss our hobbies and spend free time together.

Student A: I agree. Good relations with other people need trust and respect. For example, we should listen to our friends and not laugh at their mistakes.

Student B: That is true. I also believe that hobbies help people make friends. My hobby is playing football. It keeps me fit, teaches me to work in a team, and gives me a chance to meet new people.

Student A: My hobby is drawing. I enjoy it because it helps me relax after school. I do not agree that every hobby must be useful for a future job. A hobby can simply make a person happier.

Student B: I agree with you. People also need a comfortable home. In my opinion, a home does not have to be big or expensive. It should be a place where you feel calm and welcome.

Student A: Exactly. A friendly atmosphere is more important than beautiful furniture. I think spending time with family, being kind to other people, and having hobbies make our lives better.
