Let's put these verbs into the Past Simple tense:

  1. Miss Marple caught many criminals.
  2. The professor and Alex found a mysterious message.
  3. When I was ten, my family left the countryside.
  4. Dr Frankenstein met Captain Walton on the ice.
  5. It was Sunday yesterday. I didn't go to school.
  6. When did you come back from Italy?
  7. Agatha Christie wrote over thirty novels.
  8. Hercule Poirot was a Belgian detective.
  9. Did you help your mum with the housework yesterday?
  10. They were too tired. They didn't want to play football.
  11. How many novels did Agatha Christie create?
  12. Sherlock Holmes wore a cape and smoked a pipe.

In each case, we've transformed the verb in brackets into its Past Simple form, either in affirmative, negative, or interrogative sentences as required by the context.
