Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut and the first human to journey into space. He was born on March 9, 1934, in the village of Klushino, near Gzhatsk (now called Gagarin), Russia. Gagarin came from a working-class family and showed an early interest in aviation, eventually enrolling in the Saratov Industrial Technical School and later attending the Orenburg Pilot School.

In 1955, Gagarin joined the Soviet Air Force and became a pilot. His skills and exceptional performance led him to be selected as one of the first cosmonauts in 1960. After extensive training, on April 12, 1961, Gagarin made history as the first person to orbit Earth aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft. The flight lasted 108 minutes, during which Gagarin completed one orbit around the planet. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

After his space flight, Gagarin became an international hero and symbol of Soviet space achievements. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and continued to work in the space program, although he never flew in space again. Gagarin was also involved in public speaking and training future cosmonauts.

On March 27, 1968, at the age of 34, Gagarin tragically died in a plane crash while piloting a MiG-15 aircraft during a routine training flight. Despite his untimely death, Yuri Gagarin remains a symbol of human achievement in space exploration. His legacy continues to inspire people worldwide.
