CGI means computer-generated imagery: pictures, characters, objects or whole scenes created with computer graphics. CGI can be 2D or 3D, still or animated.

It is used in films, cartoons, video games, advertising, architecture, education, medicine and virtual reality. For example, CGI can create a fantasy creature in a film, a realistic car in an advert, a building model before construction, or a 3D model of the human body for learning.

In the future CGI will probably become more realistic, faster and easier to make. It may be used more in virtual classrooms, medical training, simulations, online shopping, virtual tours and films made with real-time graphics. Artificial intelligence can also help artists create scenes more quickly, but people still need to control the idea, style and quality.
