Comment on the meaning of the prepositions for, in, with in the sentences below:
A. 1. ... you are very, very lucky this term to have Miss Lacey for your new teacher. 2. They chose him for their leader. 3. Must you have George for a master — here, and our mother for a school-mistress? 4. I still want you for my wife.

In all these sentences, the preposition for means as, that is, “in the role of” or “in the position of”.
| Sentence | Meaning of for |
| to have Miss Lacey for your new teacher | to have Miss Lacey as your new teacher |
| They chose him for their leader | They chose him as their leader |
| have George for a master | have George as a master |
| I still want you for my wife | I still want you to be my wife |
So here for does not mean purpose or duration. It shows what role a person has or is expected to have.
