We usually use these modal verbs:

• must — for a positive deduction: He must be at home. This means we are almost sure it is true.
• can't — for a negative deduction: He can't be at home. This means we are almost sure it is not true.
• may, might or could — for uncertainty: He may be at home. This means it is possible, but we are not sure.
