7. Read the text and compare your ideas. The shyrdak is made of two kinds of felt. The first layer is thin felt, which is mainly of two or three different colors. The second layer is thick felt of brown or black color. Two contrasting layers of felt are put on top of one another and a pattern is then marked on the top layer with chalk. The pattern is cut with a sharp knife or scissors. The pieces of the dyed felt are folded and sewn together. When all the elements are sewn together, the thin layer with the patterns is put on the thick layer and they are stitched. The stitching creates a pattern inside the felt carpet.
