Three Books I Have Read

Reading books is one of the best ways to discover new worlds, meet interesting characters, and learn important life lessons. Three books that I have read and enjoyed are Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Although all three books contain fantasy elements and describe exciting journeys, they belong to slightly different genres and have different characters, plots, and main ideas.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a fantasy and adventure novel. Its main character, Harry Potter, is an eleven-year-old boy who discovers that he is a wizard. He begins studying at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he meets his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Together, they investigate the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone and try to prevent it from falling into the hands of the evil Lord Voldemort. The plot includes magic, friendship, danger, and the struggle between good and evil.

The Hobbit is also a fantasy and adventure novel, but it is set in a completely different imaginary world. The main character, Bilbo Baggins, is a peaceful hobbit who prefers a comfortable and quiet life. However, the wizard Gandalf and a group of dwarves invite him to join their journey to reclaim a treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug. During the journey, Bilbo faces many dangers, meets unusual creatures, and finds a mysterious ring. In the beginning, he is afraid and unsure of himself, but he gradually becomes brave, intelligent, and independent.

The Little Prince can be described as a philosophical fairy tale or fantasy novella. Its plot is less action-filled than the plots of the other two books. The narrator is a pilot who meets a mysterious little prince in the desert. The prince tells him about his home planet, his rose, and his journey to several other planets. On each planet, he meets an adult who represents a human weakness, such as pride, greed, or the desire for power. Through these meetings, the book explores love, loneliness, friendship, responsibility, and the difference between children’s and adults’ views of life.

The three books have several similarities. First, all of them contain imaginary places, magical events, and unusual creatures. Harry enters the magical world of Hogwarts, Bilbo travels through Middle-earth, and the Little Prince visits different planets. Second, all three main characters leave their familiar surroundings and begin important journeys. These journeys change them and help them understand themselves and the world better.

The main characters also share some personality traits. Harry, Bilbo, and the Little Prince are curious, kind, and capable of forming strong friendships. They are not perfect heroes, but they show courage when it is necessary. Harry risks his life to protect the Philosopher’s Stone. Bilbo faces trolls, goblins, spiders, and a dragon even though he is often frightened. The Little Prince travels alone and tries to understand the people he meets. All three characters also experience loneliness. Harry grows up without loving parents, Bilbo often feels separated from his peaceful home, and the Little Prince misses his rose and his planet.

However, the characters are different in many ways. Harry is a young wizard who is still learning about his abilities and his past. He depends greatly on his friends, and teamwork is one of the most important parts of his story. Bilbo is older and begins his journey as a careful, ordinary person. His story focuses on his personal transformation from a timid hobbit into a brave adventurer. The Little Prince is more symbolic than Harry or Bilbo. He represents innocence, honesty, and the ability to see the true value of things.

The plots of the three books are also different. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is mainly about solving a mystery and stopping an evil force. The characters collect clues, overcome magical obstacles, and finally discover the truth. The Hobbit follows a traditional quest structure. Bilbo and the dwarves must travel to a distant mountain, survive many dangers, and defeat or escape their enemies. In contrast, The Little Prince does not have one central enemy or a treasure to find. Its plot is based on conversations, memories, and philosophical observations. The Little Prince’s journey is emotional and spiritual rather than heroic.

Another important difference is the message of each book. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone teaches readers about friendship, loyalty, courage, and the power of love. The Hobbit shows that even an ordinary person can become brave and achieve great things. It also warns readers about greed and the destructive desire for wealth. The Little Prince teaches that love creates responsibility and that the most valuable things in life cannot always be seen with the eyes.

In conclusion, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Hobbit, and The Little Prince are all fantasy stories about journeys, friendship, and personal growth. However, their genres, characters, and plots are different. Harry’s story is a magical mystery, Bilbo’s story is an adventurous quest, and the Little Prince’s story is a philosophical exploration of human nature. Each book presents its own world and message, but all three encourage readers to be brave, value friendship, and look beyond appearances.
